In terms of standards, CCSA completed the M2M business research report as early as 2009. Related forecasts indicate that by 2020, the number of M2M connections will exceed 2 billion, and the revenue of operators M2M will reach 1.2 trillion US dollars. Therefore, telecom operators are still the main promoters of M2M. 428 mobile operators around the world provide M2M services, including France Orange, Deutsche Telekom, AT&T and other companies. China's M2M subscribers rank first in the world, and China Mobile M2M has become the world's largest M2M operator.

With the comprehensive development of M2M technology, some related issues deserve our deep thinking. Based on the National Internet of Things (IoT) logo management public service platform, China Internet Network Information Center points out that the key issue in the development of M2M today is to form an efficient and interoperable overall environment.

Existing M2M applications are mostly vertical industry applications, forming more and more applications and information islands, without maximizing the use of existing resources, and the traditional loose interconnection method makes M2M resource integration a major problem. Therefore, a unified M2M platform should be established to achieve efficient integration between resources and applications, and based on this, a new M2M application model will be created.

At the same time, the unified M2M platform cannot be easily promoted. Different from traditional Internet resources, the resources involved in M2M applications emphasize the correspondence with the real physical world, and M2M applications are also closely related to real production and life, such as smart grid, security monitoring, traffic supervision, smart home and smart medical. Wait. Due to various factors such as national sovereignty, commercial interests, and technical protection, each participant in the M2M application hopes that the resources provided have independent management and control authority. Therefore, the design of the M2M architecture and the establishment of a unified platform must consider the autonomy requirements. Establishing an M2M application environment with equal interoperability is an urgent problem that needs to be solved at present, and is also a prerequisite for the smooth promotion of the M2M industry. Although OneM2M is conducting technical research on standardization to try to solve the problem of compatibility and interoperability, it ignores the issue of autonomy. Analogous to the current domain name service (DNS) system, the interconnection between countries must pass the domain name root node managed by ICANN, which limits the self-management of China's network to some extent. Therefore, in the early stage of M2M technology and standardization work, China should actively participate in and promote efficient and autonomous solutions. On the one hand, improve China's right to speak in the field of M2M research and standardization; on the other hand, promote the establishment of an efficient M2M technology framework and independently develop China's M2M industry.
