North Korean version of Windows operating system "Red Star" first exposure

Not only does it have an independent regional Internet system, North Korea also has its own computer operating system!

A few days ago, a Russian student studying in North Korea announced the operating system called "Red Star" on his blog.

The splash screen reflects the integration of Microsoft and North Korean characteristics. (This article is a screenshot)

The desktop environment and file layout are similar to Windows, but the "start" in the lower left corner becomes the Red Star LOGO, and the lower right corner has the "Korean 99 years" Korean year.

Chess is very oriental.

Installation takes only 10-15 minutes

"Red Star" system is improved on the basis of Linux operating system. Earlier, there were rumors that North Korea mobilized computer experts from universities such as Kim Il Sung University and Kim Tak Industrial University in 2006 to start developing the Korean version of the operating system "Red Star".

On the 27th of last month, Russian university student Mikhail wrote an article in his blog detailing the process of purchasing the "Red Star" operating system and testing it. He is currently studying at Kim Il Sung University. He claimed that he spent $ 5 to buy two installation CDs a 5-minute walk from the dormitory. The seller did not refuse to sell because he was a foreigner. The system is divided into client and server versions, and third-party software needs to be purchased separately.

It is reported that there are three installation methods for the "Red Star" operating system, starting with a CD, copying to the hard disk, or installing through a network file. The installation takes only 10-15 minutes, which is fast and convenient, except that the installation language is only one "Korean".

In addition, the "Red Star" system does not have high requirements on the computer's hardware system. It only requires a Pentium III 800MHz processor, 256MB of memory and a 3G hard disk to run. Mikhail said that when using large applications such as Warcraft 3, the system performed smoothly.

With domestic anti-virus software

The system integrated applications are very limited, using the disguised Firefox browser, AnTIvirus 2.0 anti-virus software, simple Word word processing software, PDF document reader, video player software, virtual disk management software. Among them, all the codes in AnTIvirus 2.0 were written by Korean software designers. The entertainment application contains four puzzle mini games, namely mine clearance, Chinese chess, stone crusher, and drawing cards.

"Red Star" also uses a unique keyboard standard, which can be used to enter English, Korean, Chinese, Russian and Japanese, respectively.

The CD also contains "We" office components, "Pigeon" e-mail service, fax communication service, "Pyongyang Fortress" firewall and calculator / calendar, etc.

The default search engine in the browser is Google, but no useful information can be found because the North Korean network is completely closed.

Netizen: Exquisite production is very advanced

Mikhail said that although technically different from Microsoft's Windows, "Red Star" environment and design is very similar to Windows. Especially the desktop environment, which is almost the same as Windows, provides icons such as "My Computer" and "Recycle Bin". At the bottom left of the interface is the start menu, next to the quick launch button.

However, the system interface has many different small details. For example, the browser is called "My Motherland". In addition to the Gregorian calendar time, there is an additional main year calculated from the birth of North Korean leader Kim Il Sung (2010 is 99 years ).

Russian netizens have left messages on Mikhail's blog. Some netizens believe that the system is exquisitely made, and ask Russia why not make a better operating system. Some netizens think North Korea's system is very advanced, because it uses a more open and safe browser.
