MALVERN, PA — March 1, 2012 — Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the launch of its new line of 1W cool white, medium white and warm white devices, the VLMW712xxx LED, to expand its Little Star® Series SMD Power LEDs. The new device uses phosphorus nitride to enhance color stability over a wide temperature range. The VLMW712xxx LED combines ultra-high brightness and small package form factor with a low thermal resistance of 10K/W and high luminous intensity for a variety of applications.
Vishay's new Little Star LED is available in an SMD power package with a small footprint of 6.0mm x 6.0mm and an ultra-low height of 1.5mm, making it the most rugged, high-efficiency product on the market. The device's drive current is up to 350mA, with a typical high luminous intensity of 33,500, with a typical luminous flux of 67.2lm to 113.6lm.
The high brightness and thin profile of the VLMW712xxx series of LEDs make them ideal for traditional lighting and specific applications. Typical end products include traffic lights, architectural lighting, light pipes, indoor and outdoor imagery and advertising lighting, patio lighting and general lighting, and lighting and backlighting for home appliances such as audio equipment and microwave ovens.
The device has a half-bright angle of 60° and a viewing angle of 120°, which can be used in an infrared reflow soldering process. The VLMW712xxx series of LEDs are RoHS compliant with 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC and can withstand the 2kV ESD voltage required by JESD22-A114-B. The Little Star package is pre-treated according to JEDEC Moisture Sensitivity Level 2a, lead-free and RoHS compliant.
