According to market research and forecasting company IDC, it is expected that the number of fiber access users in China will surpass 26.6 million in 2012, and will maintain a compound annual growth rate of 56.4% in the next five years, and China has become one of the world's largest optical network equipment markets. As of the end of 2011, the number of fiber access ports in China has exceeded 100 million, an increase of over 100% year-on-year; China's fiber access users have reached 15.56 million, an increase of over 370% year-on-year. Compared with China's 158 million broadband users, the number of fiber access users will also have a very large room for growth. According to China's optical fiber broadband development plan, by 2015, the country’s Internet export bandwidth will reach 5T, urban households’ bandwidth access capacity will basically reach over 20M, rural households’ bandwidth capacity will basically reach 4M or more, and household fiber access coverage will exceed 5 million; wireless LAN The scale of public operation hotspots will exceed 150,000; by that time, the city’s non-profit institutions’ fiber arrival rate will reach 100%, and fiber-to-building and office space will be available for all types of business parks such as science and technology parks, industrial parks, business buildings, and hotels.

All these data show that China's broadband market has great potential and will surely be one of the main battlefields for future broadband operators to confront. The popularity of optical fiber broadband is also a general trend. So the fight for the broadband market in the future is largely a struggle for fiber-optic broadband.

China Telecom’s deputy chief engineer Yan Dongbin said that the number of China Telecom’s optical fiber broadband subscribers will exceed 100 million three years later, reaching the world’s leading level. China Unicom also clarified 10 million new FTTH households in 2012. In 2010, China Mobile’s bid for the three major operators of optical fiber and cable reached 40%-50%. It can be seen that all major operators have given great importance to the promising business of optical fiber broadband.
