The possibility of LED era downlights from the interior design

Functional lighting: see light, see light

Just as everyone always misinterprets Edison's "genius is 1% inspiration plus 99% sweat." Ignore the latter half "but that 1% talent is the most important, even more important than that 99% sweat. ."same. People who learn lighting design will be instilled with a word at the beginning: seeing no light.

If used in artificial lighting, it is obviously only a scene description of "indirect lighting", or at best as a requirement for the luminaire to prevent glare interference as much as possible, and in other cases it is almost impossible.

Figure: The use of the light trough in space is a typical "indirect illumination" method of seeing light, "indirect" can make the space light soft, and because it is indirect, so the illumination that can contribute to a specific space is also limited. In many cases, Additional functional light needs to be added as a supplement, such as a downlight that is mounted on the ceiling to provide direct light to the plane.

Figure: In the VIP room of a high-end watch store, in addition to the circular ceiling light trough provides artificial ambient light, additional light supplementation is needed in the rest area. As a space-defining function, the next illumination lamp becomes a good choice; For the smallpox, the appearance of the lower illumination lamp is obviously not hidden.

Therefore, the appearance of the functional luminaires is obviously an inescapable problem.

At the moment, in addition to the innovation of technology and technology, the appearance of functional lamps is given more styling changes, or hidden as much as possible in building materials or directly exposed by excellent industrial design, becoming a decorative element. Outside the "improvement" faction, it seems difficult to seek a revolutionary solution. Why? We attempted to trace the source from the application terminal of the indoor functional luminaire.

Understand the interior design to know how to use light: know why

First of all, the essence of interior design is the process of breaking up the reorganization of space, moving lines and light. For the unit of light, there are two things: opening windows and designing artificial light for space.

Let us first look at a typical case:

Photo: 3D deconstruction of the “Light Walls House” layout in Toyokawa, Japan. The “room in the room” is the way the space designer reorganizes the space. There are four small boxes in the room distributed in the big box. Around the middle, the middle is the passage and the public space, and the use of daylight as much as possible is the focus of the space light environment design, and then it is the supplement of the artificial light source.

Figure: During the day, daylight is broken down, providing light to the four box spaces in the room, which is obviously not enough. The designer must arrange an artificial light source based on the spotlight in the place where the light is needed, which is used as an auxiliary for the space light.

Take a look at the public space lighting that has been split into a "ten" shape.

In the above case, the method of the downlight is linearly arranged according to the structure of the space ceiling. However, it is obvious that the ceiling design is linear, but the downlight is point-shaped, not following the line shape. The design of the texture.

Is there any other option?

Traditional downlight: point performance

Downlights (or spotlights) are widely used as indoor light sources. When serving indoor spaces, few people mention their shape problems. Obviously, because the mention is useless, in the era of traditional light sources, the established shape of the light source limits the shape of most of the lamps. It is nothing more than who can make the transmitters well and occupy a small footprint. Who can make the frame? It's thinner and more tasteful; there's nothing else to discuss. Downlight - is a lamp in the shape of a cylinder, nothing more.

Therefore, the traditional downlight, the physical performance in space, is just a point.

The design language of space designers: point, line, face, body

Points, lines, faces, and bodies are the tools of the designer's design language. Lights and lights, like wallpapers and floor tiles, are all space designers. They are tools for space design. So, "points" are ideal in space. What is the status?

Yayoi Kusama? This is a joke.

Picture: The spotlights give the irregular curved facade a little bit of cosmic starry sky. The “point” appearance of traditional spotlights has become a good design element.

As far as the "point" is concerned, there is a special one to look at the Shenzhen Airport T3. In order to continue the design language of the honeycomb hexagonal shape, the downlight on the ceiling is also a custom-made hexagonal frame:

When the line becomes the design language, can the downlight become a line type?

Then the question comes. When a line becomes a design element in a space, what is the possibility of being a spotlight that provides functional illumination? Is it possible to be linear?

Let's look at the most typical linear space - the channel:

Figure: As the most typical linear space, to achieve the same light effect, if the downlight used in the channel is linear, there will be better and more secret sequence, and the space is clean. Let's see again, what happens if more prominent linear design elements are added to the space?

Figure: As in many commercial spaces, techniques such as lamp sockets and anchor lines are added to the linear space to make the entire channel have a significant trend. At this time, if the circular shape of the conventional spotlight can be a line The type is icing on the cake.

Looking at the examples, here are three public channels of comparable size:

(I am sorry for the intensive phobia.)

Perhaps many people think that the above picture is no problem, there is no design at all, and then picky, nothing more than the floor reflective material is not suitable, this is a subway station channel, the lights are arranged It’s ok to get the illuminance to reach the standard, but it’s not good.

However, the same is the channel, what else can it be? The two sides of the channel clearly make people stop, and the ceiling light provides even light on the ground and in space:

Or, like this, all the lines are:

If you don't describe the design language, how do you feel the difference between the above three channels?

Below we add the description of the experience and the language of the design to describe the three spaces above:

Obviously, in the same specification space, because of the difference between the design language and the light practice, the space brings significant differences that the space user can experience.

This is the relationship between language and motivation in space design.

Lighting is undoubtedly the need to assist interior designers in achieving these motives. Obviously, if it is also used as a public channel to let users feel the trend of walking, it is the responsibility of design language, and as mentioned above, if there is a line appearance However, the product that is equivalent to the function of conventional spotlights is undoubtedly the gospel of using lines as a spatial design language. And this product, benefiting from the development of LED technology, the limitations of traditional light sources have been broken, and now it really appears, and also has a veritable name: Line to circle

The appearance of the line type can produce a round spot:

This has been difficult for designers in the past.
