The HL7005 offers a complete, fully automatic three-stage charge management: trickle precharge, high current constant current charging and constant voltage charging. When the battery voltage drops below the internal threshold, the chip automatically restarts the charging cycle. If the input power is disconnected, the chip will automatically enter a high-impedance mode that prevents battery current from leaking to the input. When the chip temperature reaches 120 ° C, the chip will automatically reduce the charging current to prevent the chip from overheating.

The HL7005 has three operating modes: charge mode, boost mode and high impedance mode. In charging mode, the chip provides a precision charging system for single-cell Li-Ion or Li-Ion polymer batteries. In boost mode, the chip raises the battery voltage to 5.0V and the VUSB acts as an output to power the OTG device. In high-impedance mode, the chip stops charging or stops boosting, presenting a high-impedance state, at which point the current drawn from the VUSB and battery terminals is small. This mode effectively reduces power consumption when the handheld is in standby. The host communicates with the HL7005 through I2C (so-called host mode or 32-second mode), which enables the chip to switch smoothly in different working modes. In the absence of an I2C host, the chip will start a 30-minute security timer and enter the 30-minute (default) mode. During 30-minute mode operation, the HL7005 will charge the battery based on the default values ​​of the registers.

Battery short circuit activation

Regardless of whether it is a mobile phone or a tablet, there are some practical application problems for the battery. Among them, the battery over-discharge activation problem and the battery short-circuit activation problem; if the battery is over-discharged for some reason, the battery power is almost It is completely consumed, and at this time it is subject to activation problems in the case of battery over-discharge. Since the HL7005 itself has a trickle charge function, it automatically charges the battery with a 30mA current when the battery voltage is lower than 2V. In this way, the battery is automatically activated not only to be safely charged.

The need for battery short-circuit activation is more likely to occur during handset assembly on the production line. For wire-wound batteries, the battery may be short-circuited online during the assembly process of the main board due to possible operator error. At this time, the battery itself will enter the short-circuit protection. Even if the battery itself has power, it cannot provide external voltage, so it is necessary to take measures to activate the battery. The traditional method of activation is to manually apply a higher voltage to the battery from the outside before the battery is shorted. However, this method is inefficient and not suitable for automated production requirements. The HL7005 integrates a battery activation function. After the short-circuit protected battery is connected to the HL7005, it is automatically activated and then starts normal charging.
