STMicroelectronics launches a fault management chip for multiple LED lights

STMicroelectronics (ST) has launched a new fault management chip. The new products make the reliability and durability of key lighting LED lights such as car lights, street lights and emergency lights more outstanding.

The new product LBP01 is used for lighting lamps composed of multiple LED strings. If LBP01 is absent, a failure of one LED lamp may cause all the lamp strings to go out, affecting the total output light quantity of the entire system, forcing the owner to replace the lamp in advance. The lighting system using LBP01 can make the current bypass the faulty LED lights and continue to supply power to the remaining normal LED lights to ensure that the brightness of the lighting is close to the maximum. This can improve the performance and safety of the lighting system and help lighting companies such as City government enterprises save on maintenance costs, and the total cost of replacing a street lamp may be as high as $ 700.

Compared with similar products on the market, LBP01 has many advantages. Competitive products can usually only bypass one LED light, while LBP01 can bypass two LED lights, this flexibility allows designers to reduce material costs. In addition, the product also provides surge protection to prevent surges from burning LED lights.

According to market predictions, as of 2015, the sales revenue of security-based LED advertising screens and lighting markets (including car lights and street lights) will exceed US $ 5 billion. LBP01 can also prolong the service life of the LCD backlight of various devices. To maximize on-board design opportunities, STMicroelectronics offers LBP01 in two different packages. Designers can choose a 3.95 x 5.6 mm SMB package to directly replace competitor products, or use a 3 x 3.05 mm SOT23-5 package to design a more compact solution Program.
